About us
The Clear Mind Foundation offers persons with a mild learning disability appropriate paid work and supported living. We currently provided 16 special persons with a job and sheltered living. This type of project is unique in Ghana.
In 2014 Bridget, with cerebral palsy, was the first to be offered work as a weaver. Kwame Evans (washing cars) and his wife Adyoa (selling water) both with cerebral palsy, followed her in 2020 after which 13 other special workers joined the Clear Mind family, mainly working at the carwash, the farms, the shop and the cornmill. The max number is 20.
In order to create the infrastructure for residential living and job opportunities, the team in Ghana designed in 2018 a long term development plan, that was subsequently carried out and will hopefully be completed in 2027. Fundraising for infrastructure was predominantly done by the “Stichting Clear Mind” in The Netherlands, a foundation that assists the Clear Mind Foundation in Ghana. Both foundations are registered in 2014 in Accra at the registrar general and at the “Kamer van Koophandel” in The Netherlands. The Anbi status is active.
Many special people joined Clear Mind with the ambition of becoming more independent in their
lives, but many also left again because our special workers must be tough, mature, sociable and hardworking to fit in the ‘family’. The point of Clear Mind is that those who join need to be able to work and live from what they earn, in the absence of any subsidy or other support in Ghana. This is difficult enough for ordinary Ghanaians, let alone for those with disabilities. But they manage by their own hard work which makes them feel proud and accomplished.
Their own pay, a monthly allowance of 25 euro from overseas, meant for healthcare, unforeseen and saving for the future. Clear Mind is grateful for the overseas sponsors as long as there is no subsidy from Ghana itself.
The team in Ghana consists of Director Willie Hardi with two full time assistants, called the ‘ço-workers’ and 16 special workers. They live and work as a family with a family-business, with Willie as director and family-head. The special workers in 2026 are Kwame, Adjoa, Charles, Amankowa, Bridget, Kintampo, Kojo 1, Amoateng, Frimpong, Kofi Baidoo, Kojo 2, Timothy, Becky, Regina, Babato and Nicolas (suspended). The special workers organize weekly house-meetings about anything to do with daily life, relationships, shopping, cooking, cleanliness and issues at the worksite. The project is supported by the Clear Mind Foundation Governing board in Ghana, formed by George Kumih Kyeremeh, chairman, Director Willie Hardi, secretary, Kwame Evans, treasurer, Salamata Catherine Mahama, member; Samuel Baffoe, member; Ineke Bosman, founding member, Nana Adams, member and Mrs Agyewaa, member,. The board meets twice a year.
The webmaster is Stephen Amoako, an ICT expert presently living in Dubai. He is responsible for the website design and hosting and keeps it updated as a webmaster on a voluntary basis. Contact StevenKobby at: steve_graphics@ymail.com
The Clear Mind Foundation governing board in the Netherlands consists of Arnoud Jansen, chairperson, Moniek Jansen-Slangen, secretary, Leo van Boheemen, treasurer; Vera van der Zalm, member and Ineke Bosman, member. The Dutch board meets twice a year. The foundation in the Netherlands financially supports the foundation in Ghana but is not responsible for its policies.
